Constellation

Lawrenceville

What we liked: lovely outdoor seating, cute mugs and spoons

What we didn't like: indoor atmosphere, drinks

Constellation is a simple, no-frills coffee shop on Penn Ave in Lawrenceville. We try to give all cafes the benefit of the doubt, but we've gotta say that the atmosphere and decor of Constellation was as bland as the flavor of the drinks we ordered. The indoor area was stark, white, and quiet, like an empty gallery. It kind of felt intimidating to even order our drinks without whispering. No music was playing, no art decorated the walls, and the indoor seating was very limited. The outdoor seating was located in a cute gravel garden area and offered much more space, which was nice since we went on a warm day. Also, the baked goods looked phenomenal, though we didn't try them. The specialty drinks were quite limited, but we ended up ordering a maple spice latte and a chai latte. The presentation of the drinks were beautiful, served in nice mugs with tiny espresso spoons that we loved (and wanted to buy). But the flavor of the drinks majorly fell flat. The flavor was so greatly lacking, we could hardly finish them. Not necessarily gross, we just had no desire to drink them. Maybe it was an off-day for Constellation, but we definitely would not order those drinks again.

What We Ordered:

Maple Spice Latte

- couldn't taste the maple at all, couldn't really taste any flavor

Chai Latte

chai flavor was somewhat prominent, but definitely neither the level of spice or black tea flavor we would expect from a good chai
